Bluewater’s Bin Your Bags! Campaign

As of September 1st 2008, Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe, Kent will be giving away 10,000 free 100% reusable, 100% biodegradable jute shopping bags to the first 10,000 shoppers to ‘bin their bags’ at one of the site’s recycling stations. Read the rest of this entry…

Shopping Centre Goes Green!

Lots of green shops - 240 in fact!

The Manchester Arndale shopping centre was proud to be the first awarded by the Environmental Business Pledge earlier this year. The EBP is a free advice and award scheme set up by Manchester City Council and environmental consultants Groundworks.

“On Yer Bike!” - Travelling Green

Welcome to a new revolution in public transport.

No waiting times. No lack of seating. No invasion of personal space.

The OYBike System is the lastest craze sweeping across the UK. Most commonly found around the capital in towns such as Euston and West Kensington, a network of bicycle rental stations allow us to rent a bike for a period of time.

And the catch - there isn’t one!

Going Green With Online Shopping

We went out shopping for a new microwave this weekend and I had an interesting thought: Can shopping online be better for the environment?

As me and the other half travelled from store to store looking for the perfect microwave to meet our needs, we must have covered around 40 miles in total. Once we decided which one we wanted, it was back to a store that we visited earlier to make the purchase.

Green Washing and the Green Sheen

Shoppers beware! All may not be as it seems when it comes to Green shopping.

Unfortunately for the considerate consumer, being “green” has become more of a profit-making scheme to many companies, rather than a guideline for business practice. This has become known as “Green Washing”, and means that although a company may claim to be environmentally friendly and ethical, their true credentials may not be so pure.
